Metaverse technology changes every day, which makes a comprehensive metaverse platform ranking a big challenge. So instead of trying to be too exhaustive, we’ve put together our own list of the metaverse’s best platforms based on
- how much we love what they are doing
- their potential for continued success
- innovation
- how much we think you’ll like them
Our Top Metaverse Platforms:
Here are choices for the best metaverse platform, in no particular order.
Epic Games
We’re fans of Epic Games’ commitment to the metaverse. In April 2022, Epic Games announced a $2B financial influx that is dedicated to metaverse tech. According to The Verge, “The funds come from Sony, which has previously invested in Epic, and KIRKBI, an investment group operated by the Kirk Kristiansen family, which founded the Lego Group.”
These funds will be used in part to create a family-friendly metaverse platform in collaboration with Lego. Lego and the metaverse? Count us in!
Somnium Space
We like Somnium Space’s innovative thinking. It’s easy to use, available with or without a VR headset, and built on both Solana and Ethereum blockchains. Somnium Space is thinking outside the (digital) box.
We like their “live forever” program. XRToday explains, “Somnium Space has several unique capabilities that make it stand out in a competitive market. For instance, users can choose to ‘live forever,’ where they are automatically recorded on their virtual property for future AI analysis.”
Roblox
Perhaps the most popular metaverse platform, Roblox is leading the way with the creation of virtual and immersive experiences. In Roblox, users can purchase virtual concert tickets, explore virtual real estate, and other 3D virtual reality experiences. What began as a video game has become a virtual world.
Meta
When it comes to the metaverse, we have reason to believe that Meta is all in. Though they are still working to determine what their metaverse will look like, Meta has the money, the resources, the visibility, and the ingenuity to lead us into the metaverse.
Recently, Meta built a metaverse store that actually exists in the physical world. The NY Post says, “Meta Platforms is set to open its first physical store where shoppers can try out and buy virtual reality headsets and other gadgets as the company plots a course to take its highly touted metaverse mainstream.”
Sandbox
Sandbox is a leader in the creation of digital environments where users can interact virtually and navigate virtual maps into an open world. What started as a game platform has begun to morph into so much more.
As XR Today explains, Sandbox “has proved to be a favorite among investors and brands. Gucci recently opened a VR store on the company’s Metaverse platform, where users can buy, own, and showcase their digital purchases from the brand. The firm has also partnered with video gaming company Ubisoft to introduce elements from gaming franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Prince of Persia into the Metaverse.”
